When we first made the Wakefield album and started putting the graphics together, we considered including the song lyrics for each song, but there was no space on the front or back covers, and we didn't think it was practical to make a fold out cover or add an additional sheet, especially considering that no one felt like our lyrics were anything special. Still, I always thought it was fun to read the lyrics to the songs that I liked, while listening to the song. So, for those of you that would like to do the same, I have included the lyrics to the songs I wrote. Perhaps I can talk Geoff into jotting his down as well. If so, I will include them as I receive them.
Tara is my oldest daughter. She was a little blonde with big blue eyes, and when she smiled, she lit up the room. I believe she was just starting kindergarten at the time I wrote this song. She would get on the bus by herself, and return home by herself. I thought it was the cutest thing because she became a little person to me at that point, rather than an infant. She used to say "keep me" instead of "hold me" which I used in the song. The song kind of has that "little bouncy girl feel" that was like her personality, and that feeling comes through in the song.
What was great about playing with the guys, was that the song always turned out better than when you brought it to them. Both Jeff and Dave contributed by coming up with the unique drum groove, and with the intro bass line (that was all Dave!).
I know you from somewhere, I've seen you around. You're the one with the face, keeping me off the ground.
She's just a little girl, she looks just like you. Mommy's little helper, brings herself home from school.
Tara won't you keep me. Tara, I'll keep you. Tara falling to sleep, closes her eyes of blue.
Now I have some time to show that I'm thinking of you. And some day you'll find I'll make her mine, and she will too.
And I'll say Tara, Tara, Tara with a face like sunshine, how do you do today. Tara, how do you do today, Tara how do you do.
Holding your hand in mine, can't you feel it too. Looking in to your eyes, more than a friend in you.
Tara don't I know you. Tara you know me. Tara you're surprising, knocking me off my feet.
Now the world out there waits for the girl with the blonde hair.
Can't you hear them call they say it all and anyway...I'll say
Tara, Tara, Tara with a face like sunshine, how do you do today. Tara, how do you do today, Tara how do you do
So I'll say, Tara, Tara, Tara with a face like sunshine, how do you do today...(repeat) Tara, how do you do today, Tara how do yo do today
